Frequently asked questions
The frequently asked questions will provide a useful guide to help you understand how a choice-based letting system in One housing works.
- When can I bid for properties?
Properties are advertised for a set duration of time and this is known as the bidding period. If you are interested in the property, you would need to place a bid within the bidding period. For example, if a property is advertised from Monday 17 February 2020 to Friday 21 February 2020 then you would need to place a bid during this timeframe. The property adverts will outline what the bidding period is.
- How many property bids can I place?
You can place one bid per property advertised.
- Why does my position change during the bidding cycle?
Your position will change during the bidding cycle as other applicants place bids. Bids are prioritised in banding order, from band 1 being highest priority down to band 4. Within each band, applicants will be sorted by date of registration.
If you have made a bid but then change your mind, you can remove the bid on the website as long as the bidding cycle is still open. Please think carefully when placing your bids, and only bid on properties that you would like to be considered for.
- Is there a specific day of the week a person should bid?
There is no specific day you should bid; we only advertise properties as and when they are available. We therefore encourage you to regularly log on and check online. If you have provided us with your mobile number and/or email, then when a suitable property with your bed need is advertised, you will receive a text and/or email advising you that it is available and if you are interested you need to log on and place a bid.
- Why haven’t I been invited to view a property?
If you have bid on a property but you have not been invited to a viewing it may be because
• You are not top of the list;
• You do not meet the advert preference if one has been noted;
• You have arrears on your rent account.
- What if I have pets?
Pets are not allowed in some of our properties, it depends on the type of property. The advert will clearly state if we don’t allow pets in that specific property. Generally, we will say that pets may be allowed with permission.
- What happens if my household circumstances change?
If your circumstances change then get in contact with us and we can re-assess your transfer application and your banding may change. We may request evidence of household members and will advise you of this when we speak with you.
- How will you use my personal information?
